Sonya has a Bachelor of Music Performance from Western University in London Ontario. She works as a private violin teacher and as a fiddle player for the Oh Canada Eh dinner theatre in Canmore. Sonya has performed with many orchestras, theatre and chamber groups in Canada and Vienna Austria.
Fiddle:
Sonya has been kicking up her heals and fiddling for over 10 years, mostly at the Cornerstone Theatre in Canmore but also for many conferences and events at The Banff Centre. Her style is unique as she has the ability to dance talk and play the violin at the same time.
Violinist:
Sonya has done some incredible improvised and unique performances at the Banff Centre with Here Hear Production. She has also recently performed with juno award winning artist Hawksley Workman and Sarah Slean.
Sonya has been teaching for over 15 years in Alberta and also temporarily in Toronto. She has a degree in Violin Performance from Western University and 5 levels of Suzuki violin pedagogy teacher training. Sonya also has recently done violin pedagogy workshops in the summer with highly recognized teacher trainers. She has taught and can teach any age starting from 4 years old to adulthood.
Her students have given many lively performances on the Eric Harvey Stage at the Banff Centre as well as many events in the Bow Valley. Sonya has arranged and taught all kinds of classical, pops and fiddle music to her students.

Duo Rouge:
Duo Rouge is a violin/viola duo based out of Banff, Alberta, Canada. Our specialty is providing music for weddings and other types of receptions, offering a range of styles from classical favourites to lively fiddling and Celtic tunes to cocktail favourites. We work together with our clients to create an individual, expressive musical experience. Our rates are reasonable, and we are willing to accommodate many extras, including outdoor ceremonies (weather permitting!) and arranging special requests whenever possible. Sonya is also able to create different duo, trio or quartet options with violin, piano and cello.
